What is Rhodium?

Rhodium is a metal from the group of platinum metals. Its color is silvery white.
This metal occurs very rarely in nature and at the same time it is used in many areas. That's why it is one of the most expensive and sought-after metals.
This is also reflected in the price: rhodium is ten times more expensive than gold.

What does rhodium plating mean?

To give the jewelry a long-lasting shine, it is coated with a fine layer of rhodium. Rhodium plating is done using a chemical or galvanic process.

Why is jewelry rhodium-plated?

  • Rhodium plating gives the surface a more beautiful and shiny appearance.
  • The jewelry material is protected from discoloration or oxidation.
  • The durability and stability of the piece of jewelry is improved.
  • Protection against scratches on the surface.

Why is 925 silver jewelry additionally rhodium-plated?

Similar to iron or copper, sterling silver or real silver can oxidize over time. This is a natural and unavoidable process and therefore not a sign of poor quality. Oxidation occurs through a chemical reaction with water or air. This is noticeable with silver through a discolored surface, i.e. it becomes darker or black.

To counteract this, we at DIAMOND MODE protect our silver jewelry by plating it with 18 carat yellow gold, white gold, platinum or rhodium. This protects the silver from oxidation and also gives it a radiant shine.
